**NEW THIS YEAR** WPYF will not provide football pants. Dave’s Sporting Goods will be onsite with pants available to try on and order. Families may also purchase pants elsewhere, as long as they are solid white and have the proper protection (see requirements below).


PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Wayzata Plymouth Youth Football tackle program is designed for players in grades 4–8 who are ready to learn the full game and compete in a team first environment. Players build fundamentals, develop confidence, and experience real game competition while preparing for the Wayzata High School football program.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Grades: 4–8 (Fall 2026)

Season: August – October

Practices: 2–4 evenings per week (typically 6:00–8:00 PM)

Games: Saturdays + occasional weeknight games

Locations: Wayzata High School & Central Middle School

Fee: Early Bird: $400

Standard Rate (after June 21): $430



Equipment

Provided: Helmet, game jersey

Players Provide: Shoulder pads, cleats, football pants (must be white), mouthguard, practice jersey


Football Pants

Players must supply their own solid white football pants.

League rules require pants to fully cover the knees. “College-style” pants that stop above the knee are not permitted.

All players must have hip, tailbone, thigh, and knee protection.

Allowed Options

Players may wear:

  • Traditional football pants with all required pads built-in, or
  • Football pants with built-in knee pads worn over a padded girdle

Both options are allowed as long as the required protective padding is included.


Team Formation

  • Grades 4–5: School based teams whenever possible
  • Grades 6–8: Balanced teams formed through an equidraft process


Coaching

Teams are led by volunteer coaches who are trained and supported by the Wayzata football program. Coaching emphasizes:

  • Fundamentals and skill development
  • Proper technique and safety
  • Teamwork and sportsmanship
  • Confidence and leadership
